Juan Carlos Urcia Barea is pursuing his Master in Public Affairs at the School of Public and International Affairs, with an expected completion in 2022. He most recently served as a Legislative Correspondent advising US Senator Ben Cardin on labor and social safety net policy. His experiences there include leading research and recommendation formation on federal workforce issues during the 35-day government shutdown in 2018-2019, and on unemployment insurance and state fiscal relief following the economic crisis of 2020.
