Every year US states and localities spend at over $30 billion dollars on tax incentives to attract and retain businesses. How does this spending affect local or regional growth and employment? A new paper by Princeton Professor Owen Zidar and co-author Cailin Slattery (Columbia Univ.) uses a unique dataset and new methodology to look at what's happening across all 50 states, with important implications for policy.
