Event Description

Join us for a discussion of the new book, Euro Tragedy: A Drama in Nine Acts, by Ashoka Mody. This work provides a sweeping history of the EU highlighting how the push for a common currency - the euro - has undermined the entire political project. The book shows how missteps in economic policy led to the impasse in Europe today and offers profound insights into the roots of Europe's current disorder, especially distrust of the political systems and elites that seem increasingly undemocratic to the European masses.

Ashoka Mody is Charles and Marie Robertson Visiting Professor in International Economic Policy at the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. Previously, he was Deputy Director in the International Monetary Fund's Research and European Departments. He has also worked at the World Bank, University of Pennsylvania, and AT&T's Bell Laboratories. Mody has advised governments worldwide on developmental and financial projects and policies, while writing extensively for policy and scholarly audiences.
