2025 - Building the Future: A New Era of Industrial Policy

Building the Future: A New Era of Industrial Policy

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!

14th Annual JRCPPF Conference | February 20-21, 2025

Recent years have seen governments turn to industrial policy in response to global challenges like the climate crisis, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain issues. The goals of new industrial policy include assuring a competitive supply of products and technologies, strategically positioning domestic firms in the development of next-generation technologies, addressing market failures, and promoting growth in selected industries. The policy tools include subsidies, grants, trade restrictions, direct investment in infrastructure and green transition technology, and programs to promote employment and regional economic development. How does the new industrial policy differ from the old? What are the lessons from China's approach to industrial policy? How can emerging market nations draft their own industrial policy playbook?

Organized by the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy & Finance, the conference starts on Thursday, February 20, 2025 with a panel on China’s approach to industrial policy followed by a keynote with Joseph Stiglitz. The dinner (invitation only) will feature a keynote conversation with Patrick Achi, the former prime minister of Côte d’Ivoire, in conversation with Prof. Leonard Wantchekon.  Friday, February 21, 2025 includes two sessions on industrial policy in emerging markets and the U.S. and a closing keynote with Cecilia Rouse.
